DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Southeastern United States... Widespread seasonal burning was detected throughout the southeastern CONUS. Numerous light to moderate density smoke plumes were observed from Florida to Louisiana and Tennessee. Smoke was moving northeastward to east-northeastward across the Florida Peninsula, eastward across north Florida, east-southeastward to southeastward across the Carolinas, Georgia and the Florida Panhandle, southward to southwestward across Alabama, westward across southeastern Mississippi, northwestward across Louisiana and southwestern Mississippi, and northward across northern Mississippi SMOKE/AEROSOL… Mexico/Central America/Northwest Central America/Pacific Ocean: An area of light to moderate aerosol from a composite of smoke from agricultural burning and gas flaring in the Bay of Campeche and aerosol from industrial sources was observed blanketing an area from south Texas to the Tropical Eastern Pacific. The most dense aerosol was observed off the Mexican east Coast in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and western Bay of Campeche as well as across southern Guatemala extending southward over the Pacific. BLOWING DUST… Southern California… Blowing dust was observed across far southern California. The dust was being lofted from a source in the southwestern portion of the Imperial Valley eastward across the southern third of the Salton Sea and portions of the southeastern Imperial Valley. Hosley THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
