DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z February 5, 2024
SMOKE: South Central United States…. An area of light density smoke was seen over portions of the South Central United States from Oklahoma into northern Texas. The area of smoke is likely from previous days fire activity over the Southeastern United States. Northeastern Mexico and the Western Gulf of Mexico…. A fire over northeastern Mexico was producing a large area of mostly light density smoke that was extending southeast through much of the western Gulf of Mexico. There is a small area of moderate density smoke that was extending from the fire to near coastal regions of northeast Mexico. SMOKE/AEROSOL… Central America, Western Caribbean Sea and the Western Caribbean Islands: An area of aerosol that is likely a combination of smoke from agricultural burning, volcanic ash, gas flaring and aerosol from industrial sources was observed over portions of Central America extending northeast through the western Caribbean Sea and into portions of the western Caribbean Islands. AEROSOL/DUST…. Gulf of Mexico…. An area of aerosol was seen over the central Gulf of Mexico and it is believed that at least a portion of this is from blowing dust from yesterday over the South Central United States.
