DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1725Z February 26, 2024
SMOKE: Central U.S./Southeastern U.S./Gulf of Mexico… A large area of thin density remnant smoke was observed this morning from the eastern borders of Oklahoma and Kansas throughout the majority of the southeastern U.S.. The smoke was generally moving southeast, following the coast southward from New York to Florida while extending into the Atlantic Ocean. Areas of smoke were also seen moving northeast throughout the Gulf of Mexico, along the coast of eastern Mexico, southeast Texas and west Florida. Cuba/Caribbean Sea… An area of light density smoke was seen covering Cuba this morning. The smoke appeared to be moving northeast from Central America, across the Caribbean Sea and then covering the majority of Cuba. AEROSOL/SMOKE… Southern/Eastern Mexico/Bay of Campeche/Central America/Pacific Ocean south of Mexico… An area of light density aerosol from a composite of smoke due to agricultural burning, volcanic ash and industrial sources was noted over the Southern Bay of Campeche, southern/eastern Mexico, the Pacific Ocean off the coast of southern Mexico and northwestern Central America. Willkens THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
