DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

AEROSOL/SMOKE: Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Florida, Western Caribbean Islands, Western Caribbean Sea, Eastern and Southern Mexico, Central America and the Eastern Pacific Ocean... A large area of light density smoke, from widespread seasonal fire activity throughout central and southern Mexico, Central America, northern South America and the western Caribbean Islands, was seen today extending from the central North Atlantic Ocean west and southwest to off the Southeast Coast of the United States, through Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, western Caribbean Islands, western Caribbean Sea, southern and eastern Mexico, Central America and into the eastern Pacific Ocean. Within this large area light density smoke, an area of moderate density smoke was seen over much of Central America, southern Mexico and the western Caribbean Sea. Over portions of the western Caribbean Sea, Mexico, Central America, the southern Gulf of Mexico and the eastern Pacific Ocean, the light to moderate density smoke was also combining with aerosols from volcanic ash emissions and industrial sources in Mexico and gas flaring activity in the Gulf of Mexico. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
