DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z June 7, 2024
SMOKE: Eastern coast of Florida… Agricultural fires along the eastern coast of FL observed producing light density smoke plumes moving over the Atlantic Ocean. Central-Western Texas… Remnant light to moderate smoke from yesterday’s fires was visible over central and western Texas. Quebec, Canada… A few clusters of fires were seen in central Quebec emitting moderate smoke towards the NW. There was also remnant smoke in this area that continued moving NW over the Hudson Bay. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Gulf of Mexico/Central America/Central and Southwestern United States/Pacific Ocean... Numerous smoke plumes related to agricultural burning were observed across much of Mexico and adjacent Central America. This smoke combined with a large amount of remnant smoke, as well as aerosols from a variety of sources, to create a large mass of light to moderate density smoke covering much of Mexico, northern Central America, south-central and southwestern United States, the Gulf of Mexico, and adjacent coastal waters of the Pacific Ocean. Dust: There was dust seen over central Illinois that traveled east into Indiana. Rodriguez THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
