DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0010Z July 3, 2024
SMOKE: Alaska/Northern Canada... A large area of light to moderate density smoke attributed to numerous wildfires throughout Alaska and Northern Canada continues to be seen today covering most of the northern continent from the Bering Sea to Greenland, north of the contiguous U.S. Fires concentrated in Alaska, northeast British Columbia and Alberta continue to produce moderate density smoke that can be seen moving east across Canada into the Atlantic. Cloud cover prevented more detailed analysis. Southeastern United States/Gulf of Mexico... An area of predominantly light density smoke was observed today circulating around the southeast and Gulf Coast. The area of smoke extended east into the Atlantic and stayed relatively close to the shore. California... Multiple fires located in central California were observed producing an area of light density smoke that expanded throughout the central valley towards the south. A single fire north of the valley was producing a plume of moderate to thick density. Mills THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
