SMOKE: Canada/United States/Atlantic Ocean... A large area of light to moderate density smoke attributed to a combination of wildfire activity in both Central Oregon and Idaho, seasonal burns, and Canadian wildfires, was observed moving across the North American continent. The observable smoke began from central Saskatchewan and extended south into the U.S and over the US North Central plains. This smoke also extended eastward across northern U.S and eastern Canada, with the light density smoke reaching as far north as Davis Strait and east over southeastern Canada and Atlantic Ocean. Thicker smoke is likely present over northern U.S, beginning from Oregon and Idaho where heavy wildfire activity is concentrated, however heavy cloud cover over the regions precluded further smoke analysis. California... Three large fires just east of Los Angles continue to produce moderate to thick density smoke were generally moving northeast into Nevada and Utah while also light to moderate smoke were observed extending southeastward into Arizona and northern Mexico area. The overall smoke covered portions of the southwestern US, Northern Mexico and the Pacific Ocean as well as merging with large area of smoke mention in the prior section. DUST: A light amount of Saharan Dust was seen traveling westward across the Atlantic Ocean towards the Lesser Antilles with a lighter amount of Saharan Dust seen over the eastern Caribbean Sea. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
