DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z October 3, 2024
SMOKE: Midwest/Northeastern and Southeastern United States... An area of light-to-moderate density smoke attributed to wildfire activity throughout the Pacific Northwest, specifically western Oregon, was observed moving east through Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. As the mass of smoke continued eastward and reached the Dakotas, it became more moderate in density as it gained mass from additional wildfire activity within Idaho and Wyoming before extending further east over southern Ontario and Quebec, eventually dispersing into the Northeastern region of the United States. Light density smoke was also seen extending south through the Mississippi Valley and the Gulf Coast, while also extending northeast into the Southeastern United States along the eastern side of the Appalachian Mountains. Willkens THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
