DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Southeastern United States/Gulf Coast/Great Lakes Region... A layer of light-to-moderate density smoke attributed to seasonal agricultural burning along the Mississippi River and throughout the Southeastern United States was observed throughout the day. This smoke covered most of the eastern U.S. and reached into Ontario. An area of moderate density smoke was seen were the seasonal burning was the busiest in areas arouhnd northern Missouri. Pacific Northwest U.S./Pacific Southwest Canada Numerous wildfires and seasonal burns were detected today in the U.S. Pacific northwest and southwestern Canada. Cloud cover was over these areas precluded further smoke analysts. AEROSOL: Western Mexico/Pacific Ocean... A light density aerosol plume was observed over southwestern Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, south of the Gulf of California. This aerosol was likely produced from volcanic emissions and industrial activity from major urban centers within the southern area of Mexico. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
