This message is being disseminated by ESPC in order to inform satellite operations and maintenance product developers of the model change which may impact some derived satellite products. *Date/Time Issued:*****May 2, 2012 1245 UTC *Product(s) or Data Impacted*: All products that rely on NCEP's RUC (Rapid Update Cycle) model. *Date/Time of Initial Impact: * May 1, 2012 1200 UTC *Date/Time of Expected End:* N/A *Length of Event:* Effective indefinitely. *Details/Specifics of Change:* NCEP has replaced the RUC model with the Rapid Refresh (RAP) Model. An effort was made to make the RAP output products as identical to the RUC output products as possible. All filenames have changed from *ruc* to *rap*, with a few other filename changes. Several obsolete model products, including 80km output, 40km native level output, and all surface-only files have been removed. A few fields have had changes to their GRIB encoding due to a slight modification of the field. There have been no changes to WMO headers -- the same headers used in the RUC are used for the corresponding RAP products. All of the details of the filename changes, removed products and any other changes are outlined in the NWS Technical Implementation Notice: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/notification/tin11-53ruc_rapaae.htm Contact Information for Further Information: ESPCOperations@noaa.gov and 301-817-3880 Web Site(s) for applicable information: http://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/and http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/products/ This message was sent to ESPC.Notification@noaa.gov.
