A sample of striping in GOES-13 sounder imagery is available at the CIMSS blog: http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/realtime/compare/idiff/flanis-dpicom4dif.ht= ml The root cause of this error is =93Unknown=94 at this time. Manufacturer is not able to tie it to contamination or Filter Wheel winding problem, and suspects space weather activities. GOES-13 Sounder Data dropouts were also observed around the same time as this event since mid-July. The data dropouts are suspected due to Filter Wheel winding problem and have been reported to have no impact on the quality of some of the Sounder frames. See CIMSS blog entry http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/10807 Investigations are underway to determine the root cause of the data degradation that began for this most recently on July 24, 2012 and are still occurring today.
