Subject: Administrative: GOES-15 Sounder Patch Temperature Change --20cf3074b3e0aa586d04ccbae704 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Topic: GOES-15 (GOES-West) Sounder Patch Temperature Change is scheduled for October 23, 2012 Date/Time Issued: October 23, 2012 1440 UTC Product(s) or Data Impacted: Potential for degradation of GOES-15 (GOES-West) Sounder Data & Derived Products Date/Time of Initial Impact: October 23, 2012 2045 UTC Date/Time of Expected End: Between October 23, 2012 2345 UTC and October 24, 2012 0045 UTC Length of Outage: 3-4 Hours Details/Specifics of Change: On October 23, 2012 (DOY 297) at 2045 UTC, the GOES-15 Sounder patch temperature will be changed from its HIGH set point (88K) to its LOW set-point (82K). The temperature transition is expected to take 3-4 hours. There may be some data degradation initially (venetian blinding depending on the rate of change) until the patch settles at its new temperature setting. The signal to noise ratio will improve as a result of operation at a lower patch (detector) temperature. The sounder patch will be controlled at this temperature (82K) until around March 10-15, 2013 when it will be set back to HIGH again prior to the Spring Equinox and the Yaw Flip maneuver.
