This anomaly occurred in May 2008, rendering the SBUV instrument inoperable until it was recovered in August 2008. New flight software Macros with Power On/Off Cycles along with Limit Criteria were loaded at that time to sense the increase in motor temperature and to toggle the power to the Chopper Motor to prevent overheating. Those Macros Commands were successfully executed to fully recover in November, 2008, and the SBUV instrument has been normally operating ever since until this morning's seizure. At present the SBUV is operating as designed with the Macros Commands in the CPU, and the Chopper Motor Power is now cycling autonomously. We are closely monitoring for any significant changes and there is a possibility that the Chopper Motor will recover by itself. *Contact Information for Further Information:* ESPC Operations at ESPCOperations@noaa.gov at 301-817-3880 * Web Site(s) for applicable information:* N/A --------------000404030103050502050903 Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Topic: NOAA-18 SBUV Anomaly

Details/Specifics of Change:

At approximately 08:05 UTC, December 12, 2012, NOAA-18 SBUV Chopper Motor stalled resulting in a sudden increase in current and temperature.
