Subject: Administrative: Change of GOES-13 (GOES-East) Imager Schedule --047d7b5d9dfd587bd404e3864c20 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1252 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Topic: Change of GOES-13 (GOES-East) Imager Schedule in Rapid Scan Operation (RSO) post GOES-12 (GOES-South America) decommissioning Date/Time Issued: August 9, 2013 1630 UTC Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-13 (GOES-East) Imager data in Rapid Scan Operation (RSO). There will be no effect on NOAA=92s National Weather Servi= ce operations in the United States. Date/Time of Initial Impact: August 12, 2013 at 1245 UTC Date/Time of Expected End: Permanent change. Length of Impact: Sea table for details Details/Specifics of Impact: After closely examining the current GOES-13 (GOES-East) imager schedule, OSPO will provide two additional short South American images (2 minutes, 2 seconds each) per hour in Rapid Scan Operation, starting August 12, 2013 at 1245 UTC. This is to support South American customers after GOES-12 (GOES-South America) is decommissioned. Currently, there are six South America images every three hours in the Routine Schedule but only one South America image every three hours in the Rapid Scan Operations. With GOES-12 (GOES-South America) decommissioning on August 16, 2013, our users will face the situation of the loss of GOES-13 (GOES-East) imager data over South America when the GOES-13 (GOES-East) satellite is in Rapid Scan Operation (RSO). The =93Southern Hemisphere Short Sector (SHSS)=94 positioned along and sout= h of the equator west of South America that was only done during RSO will be replaced by new scans. The combined new sectors will nominally provide coverage of most of the South American land mass every hour. Please note: There will be no effect on NWS operations in the United States. The broadcast services of GOES are unaffected by Rapid Scan Operations (RSO). GOES-12 (GOES-South America) Sounder electronics are scheduled to be turned off at 1100 UTC on August 13, 2013, which will be the conclusion of all data products from the GOES-12 Sounder. The GOES-12 (GOES-South America) Imager data will be turned off at approximately 0000 UTC on August 16, 2013. GOES-12 (GOES-South America) de-orbit maneuvers are scheduled at 0100 UTC and 1300 UTC on August 16, 2013.
