Subject: Administrative: GOES-13 (GOES-East) Imager and Sounder Patch --047d7bea3f647a3c8304e70c42a4 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Topic: GOES-13 (GOES-East) Imager and Sounder Patch Temperature Change Date/Time Issued: September 23, 2013 1235 UTC Product(s) or Data Impacted: GOES-13 (GOES-East) Imager and Sounder data Date/Time of Initial Impact: September 26, 2013 1530 UTC Date/Time of Expected End: Please see details. Length of Outage: N/A Details/Specifics of Change: On September 26, 2013, SOCC Engineers will change the GOES-13 (GOES-East) Imager and Sounder patch temperatures from their MID set points (84K and 85K respectively) to their LOW set-points (81K and 82K) at approximately 1530 UTC. The change will be done during daily housekeeping. We expect the temperature transition to take about one hour for Imager and 1.5 hours for Sounder. The rate of cooling is quite low, and is not expected to have much impact on products. However, some slight data degradation (venetian blinding) is possible. The signal to noise ratio and responsivity will improve as a result of operation at a lower patch (detector) temperature. The patch will be controlled at this temperature (81/82 K) until April 2014 when it will be switched back to MID setting during the next eclipse season. The MBCC (Midnight Blackbody Calibration Correction) and SPS (Sensor Processing System) averaging mode will also be turned off at the time of the patch temp change and will be turned back on later when there is sufficient data at the new setting (2-6 days).
