Subject: Administrative: Invalid SNPP CrIS SDR Radiances Expected This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------030107060609090509030401 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Topic: Invalid SNPP CrIS SDR Radiances Expected on 10/20/2013 Date/Time Issued: October 17 2013 1635 UTC Product(s) or Data Affected: Data outage for SNPP CrIS products SVL 10255 to SVL 10257 Date/Time of Initial Effect: 20th Oct, 2013 05:03:11 UTC Date/Time of Expected End: Approximately 20th Oct, 2013 10:00:00 UTC Duration: 04 hrs 57 min Details: Due to a time stamp error in the CrIS SDR code, both the AFWA and NESDIS IDPS are expected to generate invalid CrIS SDRs for approximately 101 minutes on 10/20/2013, starting at 05:03:11 GMT (observation time). Due to some uncertainty surrounding the duration of the event, real time data analysis will be completed to ensure that the anomaly has ceased and SDR radiances have returned to expected values after ~06:44:00 GMT. As an additional precaution, CrIS SDR processing will be stopped, memory cleared and restarted at approximately 10:00 GMT. This forced restart is not expected to impact data products. It should be noted that while the radiance values will be in error, SDR quality flags will indicate that these data are 'valid'. Further, these radiance errors will propagate into the downstream CrIS IR Ozone IPs and CrIMSS EDRs. For past events of this nature, radiance anomalies were not observed in offline software, and therefore impacts to direct broadcast users is not anticipated. However, any issues should be reported to the SNPP Mission Manager at Neil.r.Wyse@nasa.gov. Breakdown of Events: 10/20/2013 at 05:03:11 GMT - anomaly event triggered. Note these data will be processed after Svalbard contact 10256 (AOS 06:18 GMT). 10/20/2013 at approximately 06:43:00 GMT - anomaly is expected to cease. Note these data will be processed after Svalbard contact 10257 (AOS 07:58 GMT). Real time data analysis will be completed to verify that data is valid. 10/20/2013 at approximately 10:00 GMT - CrIS SDR processing will be stopped, memory cleared, and CrIS SDR processing resumed. Topic: Invalid SNPP CrIS SDR Radiances Expected on 10/20/2013

Date/Time Issued:  October 17  2013   1635 UTC

Product(s) or Data Affected: Data outage for SNPP CrIS products SVL 10255 to SVL 10257

 Date/Time of Initial Effect: 20th Oct, 2013  05:03:11 UTC

Date/Time of Expected End:  Approximately 20th Oct, 2013  10:00:00 UTC

 Duration:  04 hrs 57 min

 Details:

Due to a time stamp error in the CrIS SDR code, both the AFWA and NESDIS IDPS are expected

to generate invalid CrIS SDRs for approximately 101 minutes on 10/20/2013, starting at

05:03:11 GMT (observation time). Due to some uncertainty surrounding the duration of the

event, real time data analysis will be completed to ensure that the anomaly has ceased and

SDR radiances have returned to expected values after ~06:44:00 GMT. As an additional

precaution, CrIS SDR processing will be stopped, memory cleared and restarted at

approximately 10:00 GMT. This forced restart is not expected to impact data products.

It should be noted that while the radiance values will be in error, SDR quality flags

will indicate that these data are ‘valid’. Further, these radiance errors will propagate

into the downstream CrIS IR Ozone IPs and CrIMSS EDRs.

For past events of this nature, radiance anomalies were not observed in offline software,

and therefore impacts to direct broadcast users is not anticipated. However, any issues

should be reported to the SNPP Mission Manager at Neil.r.Wyse@nasa.gov.

Breakdown of Events:

10/20/2013 at 05:03:11 GMT - anomaly event triggered. Note these data will be processed

after Svalbard contact 10256 (AOS 06:18 GMT).

10/20/2013 at approximately 06:43:00 GMT - anomaly is expected to cease. Note these data

will be processed after Svalbard contact 10257 (AOS 07:58 GMT). Real time data analysis

will be completed to verify that data is valid.

10/20/2013 at approximately 10:00 GMT - CrIS SDR processing will be stopped, memory cleared,

and CrIS SDR processing resumed.
