Subject: Administrative: Jason-2 NOTIFICATION Issued: November 19, This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --Boundary_(ID_rNzrMaxD0Rag9jx8mPyW5w) Content-type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 8BIT *Topic:* ECMWF model change to 40r1 *Date Issued:* November 19, 2013 1615 UTC *Product(s) or Data Impacted:* Jason-2 Operational Geophysical Data Records (OGDRs) *Date/Time of Initial Impact: *November 20,2013 06 UTC - When interpolation with the new grid begins. *Date/Time of Expected End:* NA ** *Length of Event:* Permanent *Details/Specifics of Change:* ECMWF has upgraded their operational meteorological models significantly. These changes became active on 19 November and will have impacts on the production of all Jason-2 data (OGDRs first, then also IGDRs and GDRs). EUMETSAT made an analysis of the impacts and it showed significant changes in the model wet and dry tropospheric correction fields up to about ±5 cm, which are expected to result in improvements of these fields. While the changes from the previous ECMWF cycle 38r2 to 40r1 are significant, they are only about one third of the differences between analysed and predicted fields. Hence we do not expect any adverse impact on the data quality. In fact, we expect to see improvements. The upgrade took place on November 19. The first operational run using the new resolution was the 12 UTC November 19 assimilation and forecast run. The first OGDR products impacted will be those with a measurement time of 0600 UTC on November 20. *Contact Information for Further Information: * ESPC Operations at ESPCOperations@noaa.gov at 301-817-3880. *Web Site(s) for applicable information:* For more information, please visit the ECMWF dedicated web page:http://www.ecmwf.int/products/changes/ifs_cycle_40r1/ You have been sent this and other notifications because you have opted in to receive it.
