Subject: Product Outage/Anomaly: MetOp-2 AMSU-A1 Channel 8 Degradation This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --Boundary_(ID_GG8E4lauO0H9InG+WuZfvA) Content-type: text/plain; charset=windows-1252; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT *Topic*: Degradation of AMSU-A1 Channel 8 on MetOp-2 (MetOp-A) -- Update -- ATOVS Soundings Recovered *Date/Time Issued: *September 29, 2014 2125 UTC* * ** *Product(s) or Data Impacted: *1) ATOVS Soundings - impact to be determined (see details below); and 2) MiRS products - minimal impacts. ** *Date/Time of Initial Impact:* September 21, 2014 ~1400 UTC *Date/Time of End: *September 25, 2014**~1800 UTC* Length of Outage:* N/A *Details/Specifics of Change: *The polar-orbiting ATOVS sounding system had observed reduced number of retrievals from MetOp-2 (MetOp-A) from September 21, 2014 until September 25, 2014 due to AMSU-A1 channel 8 calibration coefficients being out of specification. Following an analysis by NOAA/NESDIS and subsequent steps taken following the observed degradation of AMSU-A1 Channel 8 data on MetOp-2, polar-orbiting Metop-2 ATOVS soundings have been recovered and began running normal around 1800 UTC, September 25, 2014. It was determined that the warm target counts dropped below the lower gross limit which has been fixed now. * Contact Information for Further Information:* ESPC Operations at ESPCOperations@noaa.gov and 301-817-3880.** *Web Site(s) for applicable information:*N/A This message was sent by ESPC.Notification@noaa.gov.
