Subject: GOES-13 (GOES-East) Imager IR Channel-4 Re-sampling to --bcaec502d86eb0cfa1050e5a81c6 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 *Topic:* GOES-13 (GOES-East) Imager IR Channel-4 Re-sampling to Match Channel-2 is Postponed to Monday, February 9th, 2015 *Date/Time Issued:* February 5, 2015, 1719 UTC *Product(s) or Data Impacted:* Improved fog products preventing twice-a-day product discontinuity. *Date/Time of Initial Impact:* February 9, 2015 1535 UTC *Date/Time of Expected End:* Permanent change *Length of Outage:* N/A *Details/Specifics of Change:* GOES-13 (GOES-East) IR Channels 2 (3.9 um) and 4 (10.7 um) registration difference was discovered to be 1 pixel or greater at certain times of day. This can cause false fog data when utilizing the difference between these two channels. A registration correction algorithm was developed into SPS v10.4.1 which can re-sample one channel towards the other to prevent any registration shift between these two channels. During the last few months the algorithm was used to shift Channel-2 one full pixel towards Channel-4, but only during that part of the day when the co-registration differences were measured to be at/near their largest values; this resulted in a discontinuity in the products twice a day (at the times when the Channel-2 one-pixel shift began and when it ended. To prevent this, Channel-4 will be re-sampled continuously to match Channel-2 registration by the SPS algorithm and still avoid any false fog data without causing any discontinuity in products. *Contact Information for Further Information: *ESPC Operations at ESPCOperations@noaa.gov at 301-817-3880 *Web Site(s) for applicable information:* See http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SATS/messages.html for this and other satellite related messages.
