the quality of Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI)
Metop-A level 2 products was detected.A further investigation revealed
that the AMSU channels 7 and 8 were out of specification causing the
IASI level-2 products (soundings and trace gases) from Metop-A
to become
unusable.The IASI sounding algorithm uses the microwave observations to
determine its product quality assurance (QA) flags, which in turn
impacted all the level 2 products performance.NESDIS STAR scientists
are
devising a solution to correct this problem by removing the microwave
channels affected from the algorithms. It will take at least one week
before OSPO can resume its normal operational production of quality
IASI
level 2 products for Metop-A. Please note that IASI level 1 products
are
not affected.
