To assist users in the transition to the new satellite, JMA will operate MTSAT-2 in parallel with H-8 until 0630 UTC, December 4, 2015. NESDIS will provide current MTSAT products to users until December 4, 2015 when JMA deactivates the data broadcast. To mitigate the coverage gap for current users of MTSAT-2 data, NESDIS replaced MTSAT-2 imagery with sub-sampled H-8 data in McIDAS format. The sub-sampled H-8 data will reflect the MTSAT-2 specifications of the five channels having a spatial resolution of 4 km in the IR, and 1 km in the Visible. For users who already have access to our McIDAS MTSAT-2 data on GEODIST7, will now have access to the McIDAS H-8 data from the same server. Please know the use of H-8 data on our GEODIST7 server requires the installation of McIDAS-X 2015.1 update available from SSEC. Following are the replacement McIDAS file names to use when accessing H-8 imagery from GEODIST7: _Current MTSAT-2_ _New Himawari-8_ MTS/MTGLOB01V = HIM/HMGLOB03V MTS/MTGLOB04I2 = HIM/HMGLOB04I13 MTS/MTGLOB04I3 = HIM/HMGLOB04I15 MTS/MTGLOB04I4 = HIM/HMGLOB04I8 MTS/MTGLOB04I5 = HIM/HMGLOB04I7 -------------------------------------------------------------- MTS/MTNHEM01V = HIM/HMNHEM03V MTS/MTNHEM04I2 = HIM/HMNHEM04I13 MTS/MTNHEM04I3 = HIM/HMNHEM04I15 MTS/MTNHEM04I4 = HIM/HMNHEM04I8 MTS/MTNHEM04I5 = HIM/HMNHEM04I7 ------------------------------------------------------------ MTS/MTSHEM01V = HIM/HMSHEM03V MTS/MTSHEM04I2 = HIM/HMSHEM04I13 MTS/MTSHEM04I3 = HIM/HMSHEM04I15 MTS/MTSHEM04I4 = HIM/HMSHEM04I8 MTS/MTSHEM04I5 = HIM/HMSHEM04I7 Using the MTSAT-2 product suite as a guide, NESDIS OSPO has developed level 2 products using sub-sampled H-8 data. Due to significant science changes needed, not all of the H-8 products will be available on 0630 UTC, December 4, 2015, when MTSAT-2 data broadcast ends. Products that will be available on December 4, 2015, are listed below in the table in black text; products that will not be available are noted in red text.
