This is believed to be an effect of Filter Wheel Motor degradation. The instrument vendor has recommended steps to heat the motor in an attempt to improve performance. The Filter Wheel Motor will be commanded to high power mode and the Filter Wheel Housing Heater will be commanded on. It will remain in this configuration for four weeks and then restored to its original configuration. All data from channels 1 - 10 are expected to be degraded during this period. Here are the anticipated times of commanding. Note that there will likely be lags in changes to the instrument performance as the HIRS heats up and cools down.
