Subject: Product Outage/Anomaly: Update #2: Metop-B AMSU-A channel-15 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --Boundary_(ID_12eXtjBm3CSiKiokjlUESQ) Content-type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT *Update #2:* IASI recovered on November 14, 2016 at 1515z * Update #1: * ATOVS recovered**on November 02, 2016 at 1538Z * Topic:* Metop-B AMSU-A channel-15 anomaly on ATOVS, IASI and MiRS Products *Date/Time Issued*: November 16, 2016 1847Z *Product(s) or Data Impacted:* ATOVS, IASI and MiRS *Date/Time of Initial Impact:* October 17, 2016, 0030Z *Date/Time of Expected End: *November 02 2016, 1538Z *Length of Event:* Approx 16 Days *Details/Specifics of Change:***Starting around 03 UTC 17 October 2016, no valid channel measurements were available due to the Metop-B AMSU-A channel-15 anomaly, which caused a degradation of all ATOVS, IASI and MiRS product quality. The ATOVS and IASI soundings products and the MiRS rain rate over the heavy precipitation areas are severely impacted by the anomaly. STAR scientists are working to find a substitute for AMSU-A channel 15 on Metop-B for these applications and they are making an assessment for a possible solution to the anomaly. Currently, no good retrievals are being made from the ATOVS and IASI using the Metop-B data. Users are recommended to use the available products with caution. A decision will be made whether to terminate the affected ATOVS and IASI sounding products based on an upcoming assessment. *Contact Information for Further Information:* ESPCOperations@noaa.gov at 301 817-3880 *Web Site(s) for applicable information:* http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/atmosphere/soundings/atovs/index.html; http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/atmosphere/soundings/iasi/; http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/atmosphere/mirs/index.html You have been sent this and other notifications because you have opted in to receive it.
