Operations for the Safe Hold Mode recovery are currently ongoing. Yesterday, March 16th the first operations for recovery were executed, putting the spacecraft in an adequate state for gyrometers testing. Gyrometer 1, which was found to be the source of the SHM reconfiguration, was restarted successfully today at 9:28 UTC and is in good health. It therefore seems highly probable that Gyro 1 has suffered a Single Event Upset, which will not affect its future performance. The Jason 2 health status still appears excellent. Additional recovery procedures need to be performed and full mission recovery should not be expected before Thursday, March, 23rd. * Topic*: Jason-2 Satellite went into Safehold Mode on pass 40927. *Date/Time Issued: * March 17, 2017 1745Z* Product(s) or Data Impacted: *All Jason-2 OGDRs distributed via DDS and Class users. *Date/Time of the Initial Impact:* MARCH 15, 2017 1919Z *Date/Time of Expected End:* N/A* * ** *Length of the Outage: *N/A *Details/Specifics of Change: *The Jason-2 spacecraft entered safe mode yesterday (Wednesday, March 15th) at 19:19:19Z, immediately interrupting its measurements. The satellite is currently in a safe and stable Sun-pointing configuration. Expert teams from CNES and industry have been activated and detailed investigations will start today. First investigations performed last night show that Gyrometer 1 was blocked, causing the reconfiguration to SHM. All other instruments were OK at the time of the reconfiguration. Operational teams are working closely to support current and future operations. The mission will resume as soon as possible, at which time users will be notified. * * *Contact Information for Further Information:* ESPC Operations at ESPCOperations@noaa.gov at 301-817-3880 This message was sent by ESPC.Notification@noaa.gov.
