The temperature transition will take approximately 70-80 minutes. The soundings taken during the temperature transition WILL be affected and show signs of striping and banding which will decrease as the temperature stabilizes at its new setting. We expect the following frames to show the most striping and banding during this temperature transition: 21:01 CONUS and 21:24 N. Pacific soundings. GOES-15 patch changes are necessary to minimize temperature fluctuations around each equinox due to the cooler blanket anomaly and Yaw Flip operations. The signal to noise ratio and responsivity will improve as a result of operation at a lower patch (detector) temperature until around the next Equinox. *Contact for Further Information:* ESPC Operations at ESPCOperations@noaa.gov at (301) 817-3880 *Web Site(s) for applicable information:* See http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SATS/messages.html for this and other satellite related messages.
