The purpose of the exercise is to ensure the ability to fail over S-NPP flight and data operations of S-NPP and GCOM-W1 to the CBU and also to test our ability to switch back to the NSOF primary facility upon conclusion of the exercise. The flight/satellite operations failover portion of the test will last 48 hours and the data operations failover test will run for approximately 8 hours. During the data operations failover test, there will be no S-NPP/GCOM-W1 data produced at NSOF. A subset of critical S-NPP/GCOM-W1 data will be made available via the PDA located at CBU only for users with connectivity to that backup system. GOES-16 and other non-S-NPP products available via PDA at NSOF will be unaffected by this test and will still be produced and distributed through the PDA at NSOF. The CBU Facility Backup Exercise will begin at 08:00 AM EDT / 1200Z on Sep 6, 2017. The CBU site will be the operational S-NPP/GCOM-W1 product generation and distribution system for approximately 8 hours. The return to nominal ESPC operations at NSOF will be initiated by 04:00 PM EDT / 2000Z on September 6, 2017. The S-NPP flight/satellite operations portion of the test will continue to run until Sep 8, 2017 at 08:00 EDT / 1200Z. In the event that critical weather is declared on the test date, the exercise may be cancelled and rescheduled for following day (i.e. Sep 7, 2017) – details will be provided at a later date.
